Casey
Ingargiola
Oct 27, 1927 — Feb 21, 2024
Casey Ingargiola, born October 27, 1927, passed from this life on February 20, 2024. Born in New Bedford, MA to Casey, Sr. and Myra Ingargiola, Casey had four siblings, Francis, Joe, Elsie and Bernice.
Casey, Sr. had immigrated to the United States from the Cape Verde Islands by serving on a whaling ship for 2 years that ultimately dropped him off in the "new country" in 1920. Casey, too, loved the water as much of his youth was spent digging clams and fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, not to mention getting into mischief with his identical twin brother, Joe.
Casey had no idea that a trip by him and Joe to visit his older brother, Francis, who was in the Navy stationed in Norman, OK would change his life forever. Francis and his wife, Jess, decided to throw a party for the twins to welcome them to Oklahoma. The party involved music and dancing where Casey met a young lady by the name of Verna. Verna and Casey were immediately taken with each other and danced the night away, hardly aware that anyone else was there. The relationship did start off on a confusing note. Verna heard Casey to say that he worked at First National and that his father was a crook. Verna was somewhat taken aback that First National was actually a grocery store, but was greatly relieved that his father was a cook and not a crook!
For 2 years after Casey returned to his home on Cape Cod, he and Verna wrote to each other and their love continued to grow. At the age of 25, Casey left his home on the Cape and moved to Oklahoma where he married Verna on October 24, 1952 and they set up their home in Oklahoma City. They had 2 boys, Randy and Tony.
Casey continued in the business he knew so well, working for Safeway Grocery Stores, ultimately becoming a store manager. He subsequently took a job working for Kraft Foods where he worked for the remainder of his career, 32 years in all. He built strong relationships with his customers through his own brand of customer service. After being promoted to another account, the salesman taking over his former customer got so tired of hearing about how great Casey was, he ultimately told them that Casey had died in a futile effort to stop their endless praise of him! Casey and Verna continued to enjoy Saturday dances at their second home at Falconhead Ranch and Country Club just outside of Marietta, OK. Many mornings and evenings were spent watching the varied wildlife in the area from their expansive front porch and talking of days to come and those gone by with family and friends that came to visit.
Casey was an avid golfer, playing twice a week with his regular foursome well in to his 70's. When he wasn't golfing, he could often be found in one of his and Verna's favorite casino haunts where Casey's lifetime earnings were reportedly more than enough to support his golfing outings. They also traveled extensively with their travel club, making lifelong friends and enjoying many adventures both in the United States and abroad.
Casey was preceded in death by his parents, Casey, Sr. and Myra; his wife, Verna; and his siblings, Francis Ingargiola, Joe Ingargiola and Bernice McCormack. He is survived by his sons, Randy and wife Angela Ingargiola of Edmond, OK and Tony Ingargiola of Austin, TX; one granddaughter, Kristen and husband Daniel; and 3 great-granddaughters Reese, Reagan and Eleanor of Edmond, OK.
