Obituary

Celebration of the life of Carolyn Ann (Beach) Smith (1930 - 2017) Carolyn Ann (Beach) Smith was born June 16th, 1930 in Enid, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of three children of LeRoy Lemottte (L.L.) and Anna (Marble) Beach. Carolyn was raised in Enid with her two brothers where they all attended the same schools. Her family attended the University Christian Church at Phillips University. Carolyn was a strong Christian woman, loving daughter, loyal sister, devoted wife, and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married at age 18 and had 4 children. As a young mother and wife she moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where she and her husband, Roy Lee Smith, raised their children. Carolyn was passionate for Christ and raised her children to love him, too. The family attended The First Christian Church at 7th & D Avenue in Lawton every Sunday. Carolyn taught Sunday school and served whenever and wherever she was needed. She was heavily involved with the Christian Womens Fellowship (Disciples of Christ), serving as a state officer at one time. Talking to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren about Jesus was a priority for her. Order of the Eastern Star was another of her passions. Acting as District Deputy for the state of Oklahoma, she proudly traveled her district accompanied by her Master Mason husband, Roy. Carolyn and Roy were both very active in the Masonic organizations in Lawton. Carolyn retired after 32 years in the civil service for the Department of the Army, headquarters of the U.S. Field Artillery Center. She received numerous honors and awards over the course of her career including the Order of St. Barbara. The Order of Saint Barbara is a military honor society for both the US Army and the US Marine Corps Artillery, including field artillery and Air Defense Artillery. Upon her retirement, she was asked what would bring her back, to which this patriot replied, "If my country goes to war." Carolyn and Roy built their retirement home and lived on Waurika Lake, Oklahoma. They were members of the Christian Church in Waurika where they served in many capacities over the years. Carolyn enjoyed singing with the church choir and the Red River Choral. She was proud of her paternal ancestry that could be traced back to Sir William Wallace of Scotland and the English immigrant, John Beach, who was among the founders of New Haven, Connecticut. She was preceded in death by her parents, two California brothers, LeRoy Wallace and Lawrence Edwin Beach, her husband and one great-grandson. As a widow and, due to health concerns, she sold her Waurika home in 2010 and moved to Oklahoma City to be near her son, Dwight and his family. She continued to go to church with Dwight and his family until her health no longer allowed it. Carolyn is survived by her stepson, Curtis Smith of Montana, son, James Craig Smith of Corsicana, Texas, son, Larry Dwight Smith and his wife Dee Ann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter, Cheryl Owens and her husband Donald of Benbrook, Texas, and her son, Roy Douglas Smith and his wife Sharon of Henderson, Texas, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren and one more arriving in June of this year. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the family section in the Enid Cemetery at Enid, Garfield County, Oklahoma. Carolyn Ann Smith was greatly loved by her friends and family and, even though we all know that she is with Jesus now, will be greatly missed. Praise God for the life, love and spirit of Carolyn Ann Smith. Memorial Service Saturday, February 4, 2017 10:00 AM Mercer-Adams Chapel 3925 N. Asbury Bethany, Ok 73008
