Obituary

Carolyn Lou Lovelady, Bethany, Oklahoma Carolyn Lou Lovelady passed quietly in her sleep after a brief illness on May 8, 2021, in Oklahoma City, OK. Carolyn was born in Antlers, OK, on August 7, 1930, to Lucille Edwards Gray and Robert Roy Gray. She and her sister, Marjorie Beth, were raised in Altus, OK, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee on scholarship. Due to financial difficulties, she withdrew from school and was invited by the OBU president to serve as Administrative Assistant to the Dean and Registrar. While living and working in Shawnee, Carolyn met and married Dickey M. Lovelady on July 12, 1955. She worked in the Oklahoma City area primarily at financial institutions until the adoption of their first child, Rob Roy, in 1960. They adopted their second child, Laura Lou, in 1961 and had their third child, Robin Renee, in 1968. During those years, she was a stay-at-home mom and very much involved in her local church serving in many leadership positions and church committees. Many might remember her serving as the hostess for weddings and church events and also as a Bible study teacher for youth, college and married adult ladies. On Mothers Day in 1980, Carolyn made the decision to come to Council Road Baptist Church in a support position. She served as a secretary and administrative assistant for many years. In 1993, she began working with senior adults and in 1995 was promoted to the staff position as Senior Adult Minister. Carolyn continued her ministry there until her retirement at age 80. Carolyn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994. She made a complete recovery and spent the rest of her days cancer free. Carolyn was a devoted grandmother attending graduations, award ceremonies, plays and concerts until her health would no longer allow. She also had many faithful friends in church and in the facility where she lived. All of this is a testimony to her life and to her commitment to Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick M. Lovelady; her father, Robert Roy Gray; her mother, Lucille Edwards Gray; and her sister, Marjorie Beth Shirley. She is survived by her son, Rob Roy Lovelady; her daughter, Laura Lou Lovelady; her daughter, Robin Renee Rose; her daughter-in-law, Amber Lovelady; her son-in-law, John Rose; her grandchildren, Madelyne, Jennifer, Kailee, Riley, Marshal and Joshua; and her great-grandchildren, Chloe, Christina, Brayden and twins expected in December.
