Obituary

Carla Annette Maddox was a loving mother, a wonderfully doting grandmother, an unfailing sister, a loyal friend, and so much more. She died at age 61 on March 2, 2021 at home in Bethany, OK, with her children close by. Carla was born to Joyce Hooper and Ronnie Bohn on June 12, 1959. Throughout her life, she was an overcomer of obstacles. She had manysome well-known, others relatively unknown. Through faith in the God she dearly trusted, she rose from them all a strong, loving, loyal friend to all who needed one. Perhaps because of some of her overcome obstacles, she had a special concern for the most vulnerable, resulting in her sacrificing for those she saw in need. This was most clearly displayed in her protecting and caring for her granddaughter, Miracle, for her first six years. There is little that Carla wouldnt do for others. She was considered a second mother to many. She was a teacher, a shoulder to cry on, a friend to laugh with, and a spiritual confidante to many more. She would listen at length, sometimes throughout the nightat least until her sentences were cut short as she dozed off. One of her most cherished achievements was earning her nursing degree after the age of forty. But the things she cherished most of all were her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first grandchild, Ethan Pemberton, whom she will be buried near. She is survived by two daughters: Grace Hand and Jamie Pemberton. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Leland and Alayna Pemberton, and Miracle Hand-Houston. Her world revolved around these kids. Her last obstacle, cancer, was one that she couldnt finally overcome. It has taken Carla from us. The person who was always there, no longer is. But she went into her next journey confidently. Just in December, she told a friend, "I win either way. If God takes me, Im in heaven. If I live, I get more time with my family." The impact of her presence continues with us. And the world will once again be graced by her virtues when all things are made new in the resurrection. Carla will be honored in a graveside service Saturday, March 6 at 3:00pm in Rose Hill Burial Park. Family asks all who attend to wear masks if at all possible, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a concern that Carla herself had." .
