Obituary

It was Wednesday, January 7, 1925; a cold, snowy, wintery day in the country near Mattoon, Illinois. It was there that a baby girl was born to Esther Floyce Shelby and Frank J. Tate. They named her C. Angelina (eventually just called Angie) and she was received by two happy half-sisters, Vivian and Merna. Following her were her brothers, James, Reginald, Billy, and Dick coming along 21 years later than Angie. Angies early years were met by the Depression and there was very little materially, but there was always enough to eat since Frank Tate was a teacher and his position was secure. The children were taught to save at an early age and, when the banks went under, they lost their few dollars and Frank and Esther also lost their savings. Frank never believed in debt, so pay as you go was the rule of the home, which may have been a contributing factor in Angie learning early to be frugal. School was not difficult for Angie, but she studied very hard to keep ahead and graduated at age l7 from high school. Attending Olivet Nazarene College, she met Jay Foster, whom she found interesting! After completing one year of college credit while working, Jay and Angie declared their love for each other and married. Their marriage took place in Mattoon, IL on July 27, 1946. To this union they were blessed with five children: Susan (Brock) Swanson of Nashville NC; Douglas Foster of Hoodsport, WA; Marilyn (Alan) Lyke of Monument, CO; Grant (Sue) Foster of Camdenton, MO; and Stephen (Angie) Foster of Broken Arrow, OK. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Justin, Kevin, and Kelly; David, Ariana and Jonathan; Whitney; Bethany, Kaitlyn, Noah, Andrew, and Grace. Great grandchildren: Alyssa, Heidi, Grayson, James, David, Henry, and Landon. On July 5, 1984, Angie married Rev. Dan Alger in Mattoon, Illinois. They were very happy together and Dan was a devoted husband. Dan preceded her in death in October 1999. On November 23, 2001, Angie was united in marriage to Dr. Jonathan Gassett. Jonathan became the "Love of her Life" and they traveled many miles together and basically enjoyed life together with nary a cross word spoken between them. Jonathan preceded her in death in November 2014. In addition to her husbands, Angie was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Vivian and Merna, her brother, James and great granddaughter, Ceridwen. Angie loved entertaining people in her home and was an excellent cook. Everyone enjoyed her pies and cinnamon rolls and some of us have been wearing those same sweets many years later! Early on in life with minimal resources, she had learned to feed a family of five growing children so that we were never without proper nourishment. We never knew what leftovers were until we moved out! Our Mother was our greatest cheerleader, our greatest prayer warrior, our greatest friend, and the greatest influence and example of Christ-like love weve ever known! We will miss her phone-calls, her words of love and caring, her preaching, her genuine concern for others, and that effervescent light that she always carried within. She was our Greatest Champion! Funeral Service Saturday, January 6, 2018 10:00 AM Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Chapel in the Round 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway Bethany, OK 73008
