Burt E. Sheriff was born February 7, 1924 in Colorado Springs, CO, to E. C. Sheriff and Velma Smith Sheriff. He died March 13, 2012. The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1929, where Burt attended school, graduating from Classen High School in January, 1942. He joined the Army Air Corps in August, 1942. He finished pilot training the day after his 20th birthday and flew 40 missions in the Pacific receiving several decorations including the Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and usual campaign ribbons and stars. On his release from active duty, he attended the University of Oklahoma, then Oklahoma City University, where he met, in his opinion, the prettiest girl on the campus and the love of his life, Marcine Heinrich. They were married March 23, 1948 and graduated from OCU together in 1949. They shared 64 very happy, wonderful years together. Survivors are his wife, Marcine; their son, Mike Sheriff and his wife Sherrel of Norman; and their daughter, Sharon Trojan and her husband David of Enid, OK. Burt was very proud of his family, including their 5 grandsons, Dr. Tim Trojan and his fiance Jessica Mitchell, JEB Sheriff and his wife Misty, Chris Trojan, Steven Sheriff and his wife Kelli, and Patrick Sheriff and his wife Renee; and four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Madilyn, Molly and Zane Sheriff. Other survivors include his sister, Martha Hammon, Mandeville, LA; several nieces and nephews whom Burt loved very much, along with their families; and many loyal friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers H. W. Sheriff and Don Sheriff, and the spouses of his siblings, Anne Sheriff, Ina Sheriff and Gene Hammon. Burt and Marcine worked together, owning and operating Sheriff Mfg. & Supply Co. in Oklahoma City for 30 years. They sold the business and retired in October, 1983 and have since traveled extensively including 18 years in motor homes. Burt loved his Lord and served in numerous capacities in his church including service as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, teacher and other capacities. He was a former councilman and mayor of Warr Acres, building the City Hall, acquiring several parks, paving many streets and many other city improvements during his term in office. He was a former President of the Warr Acres-Putnam City Kiwanis Club that won the award as the outstanding club of that size in the state of OK and TX and number three in the nation during his presidency. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a productive and honorable citizen, and a devoted husband, father and friend demonstrating his Christian faith in how he lived. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Mercer-Adams Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UIV Fund at the First Baptist Church of Bethany, OK.
