Obituary

Bruce Lee Alfson, 61, of Yukon, Oklahoma passed away on May 19, 2014. Bruce was born in Hampton, Iowa on August 12, 1952 to Robert and LaVon Alfson. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1970. Bruce married Velma Gappa on July 19, 1974. He received a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, and a Master's of Science in Management from Southern Nazarene University. Bruce joined the SNU community in June of 1984 and, driven by his faith in Christ, has been a dedicated servant of the physical plant since that time. He held a contractor's license and to say that he was passionate about doing his work well is an understatement. Working with his hands and utilizing his electrical and woodworking abilities was very much his passion. Everyone around him fell in love with his genius when it came to Bruce's creations. He poured out his love to his children using this passion by gifting them with beautiful handmade furniture pieces that they treasure. His family was important to him, and he would often use his talents and abilities doing projects for them while visiting them on vacation. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and leaves a meaningful impact on their young lives. By being a role model in his dedication to his church and by leading devotions for co-workers, he leaves a legacy of faith and love in Christ that his family will always be truly thankful for. Bruce is survived by his wife, Velma; his children, Nathan and Karli Alfson of Oklahoma City, Michael and Christine Haight of Dallas, Tim and Chelsey Alfson of Woodward; and his sister, Dee Walker of Fleming, CO. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Paisley Alfson and Jonathan Haight and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of two more grandchildren later this year. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his older brother, Alvin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bruce Alfson memorial fund at any Bank of Commerce branch. Memorial service will be Tuesday, May 27, 2:00pm on the campus of Southern Nazarene University outdoor mall.
