Obituary

Brenda was born October 8, 1952 in Carnegie, OK to Sarrah Lou Jones Poole and Wilbert Lee Poole. They resided in Mountain View, OK. She passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday evening, December 8, 2015, at the age of 63, following a two year battle with melanoma cancer. She received wonderful care at the Integris Hospice House and was surrounded by a continual flow of family, friends and former students. Brenda was the middle child and the only girl of the family. Her father died in a tragic automobile accident when she was 5 years old. Her brother, Eddie, who was 10 years older, died at the age of 36. Brenda and her younger brother, Tommy, were raised and went to school in Mountain View, OK. Their grandmother, Susie K. Jones, lived in the home with them. Brenda graduated from Mountain View High School in 1970. She was an outstanding student, cheerleader and basketball player. She was also a very gifted musician and learned to play the piano early in life. She was actively involved in First Methodist Church of Mountain View and used her vocal and music skills to participate and lead in worship services there. Brendas musical skills earned a scholarship to the Oklahoma City University School of Music. After a year at OCU, she changed directions in her life and transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she completed a degree in Elementary Education. While at Southwestern, Brenda attended a Larry Jones Crusade and made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord. After graduation from Southwestern, she moved to Sulphur Springs, TX and started her teaching career in Yanis, TX. She later moved back to Oklahoma taking an elementary teaching position in Mustang Public Schools. She taught there for just over 35 years until she retired in 2014. She was involved in Beta Nu Teachers Sorority. Brenda was a favorite teacher and touched the lives of hundreds of students. After moving to Oklahoma City, Brenda joined and became active at Northwest Baptist Church. It was there she met, fell in love with and, on May 24, 1980, married her husband, Bill Sims. They were best friends and partners in ministry. Brenda played the organ for over 20 years and Bill ran the sound system at the church. Both served together, teaching fifth grade Sunday School and serving in the Cambodian ministry at church. Brenda was also involved in evangelism training. Many lives were touched by her loving heart, her caring ministry and her generous spirit. She is survived by her husband, Bill Sims, Yukon, OK; brother, Tommy Poole and wife Stacey, OKC, OK; sister-in-law, Vivian Boyle and husband Ralph, Beggs, OK; brother-in-law, Danny Sims and wife Sandy, Enid, OK; nieces and nephews, Gary Poole, Andy and Elizabeth Poole and family, Alisha and Eric Smith and family, Alan Poole, Amanda and Lon Vining and family, Duncan and Christi Boyle and family; aunt, Eloise Bullinger; and cousins too numerous to mention.
