Obituary

Bob D. Banks began his eternal walk with his Lord and Savior on February 24, 2022. He was born February 21, 1934 to Robert Poole Banks and Faye Louise (Evans) Banks. He lived a life of service to the church and love for the Lord. Bob graduated from Plainview High School in 1953. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK and also Southwestern University in Weatherford, OK. Thats when he met the love of his life, Betty Jane Fletcher. Bob and Betty were married September 22, 1956, in Mangum, OK. They made their home in Granite, OK before moving to Bethany, OK in 1958. Bob worked for Sutherland Lumber Company and Betty worked for Sanders Grocery Store. On August 22, 1959, God blessed Bob and Betty with a daughter, Debra Sue (Banks) Sparks. She ruled the roost until May 18, 1965, when God blessed them once again with a son, Robert D. Banks. They lived in Bethany until 1972, when the city seemed to frown on having a horse in your backyard. In 1972, they moved to Piedmont, OK, where Bob purchased 5 acres and built a shop so he could build Sonic fixtures for all the new Sonic Drive-Ins. Bob was a Baptist preacher, licensed and ordained minister and evangelist. He pastored many small churches, including Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Enid, Okarche Baptist Church, El Reno Indian Baptist Church and Calumet Baptist Church. He also filled in at many churches, such as Piedmont Baptist Church. When you got Bob as a pastor, you also got a complete church remodel, addition, or new build. Bob went on mission trips to Mexico to help build churches and furniture. He went on a mission trip to Haiti that he enjoyed more than most. When he got back from Haiti, he had many stories and raised money to send the church a new generator. After Bob retired at the age of 62, he drove a school bus for Deer Creek Schools for approximately 15 years. He loved the kids and even though he was not supposed to, he witnessed to all of them. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Faye Banks; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mina Banks; and his niece, Carol Sue Nowell. He will be greatly missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Bettye Ruth and Roy Nowell; and his nephew, Larry and Anna Nowell. He is also survived by his wife, Betty Banks; his daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Rex Sparks; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rondia Banks; 5 grandchildren, Carol McKissick, Deanna Holste, Rex Sparks III, Rebekah Allen, and Brandon Banks; and 4 great-grandchildren, Sarah McKissick, Bella McKissick, Dani Sparks, and Emma Holste.
