Obituary

Blanche Lucille Ray, age 98, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009, with the same sweetness, grace and dignity as she lived her life. Born November 19, 1911, on a farm west of Pawnee, Oklahoma, the second of six children born to George Oliver and Mabel Atherton Hooper. Blanche attended Olive Hill School and graduated from Pawnee High School, 1930. She worked eight years as Assistant County Superintendent of Schools, Pawnee County. In June 1939, she married Richard R. Roe and moved to Lima, Ohio where he was employed by Gulf Oil. They returned to Oklahoma at the time of his death in 1962. In April 1964, she married Ruben W. Ray and moved to Louisiana until his retirement in 1968. Blanche remained in Oklahoma City where she was a longtime member of Linwood United Methodist Church and United Methodist Womens Group. She belonged to several travel clubs and was a member of Friendly Corner Home Extension Club winning many ribbons with her entries at County fairs. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Richard Roe, husband Ruben Ray, a sister Wilma Kite Fryer, brothers C. Donald Hooper, John H. Hooper, Dr. James L. Hooper, Dr. Clifford Hooper, and niece Deborah Hooper. Surviving are cousin Frances Beckelhymer, Bothell, Washington; sister-in-law Katheryn Hooper, Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-daughter Betty Findley, Humble, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Wade McCoy and staff, also her caregivers who became like family at Sommerset Assisted Living where she lived the past three years. Memorial gifts may be made to Full Life Hospice, 4001 N. Classen Blvd., OKC 73118, who provided hours of loving care, or to Linwood United Methodist Church, 3034 N.W. 17th St., OKC 73107. Services will be Friday, December 4, 10:00am at Linwood United Methodist Church with burial following at 2:30pm in Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
