Billie Sanders stepped out of this life and into Jesus arms March 24, 2011 in Oklahoma City, just a few weeks shy of her 83rd birthday. Described as a pistol by family and friends, Billie enjoyed life and loved to laugh. She was a Texas girl, born in Amarillo on April 15, 1928 to Ruth Dickens and Harvey E. Sam Clanton. With big hair and a personality to match, Billie made it clear what was important in life: her heavenly Father, her family and her friends. Early in her career, Billie worked for several years as a manager for Franklin Department Stores. In the 1960s she joined her husband in the furniture and pawn business in Roswell NM. A move to Oklahoma City found them as the owners of A-1 Pawn at 23rd and Villa, a business that for 20 years touched lives both financially and personally under a sign that proclaimed Jesus is Lord. Billie was preceded in death by her parents as well as her older sister, Geneva Jones, and her husband of over 40 years, D.H. Sande Sanders. She is survived by two siblings, Harvey Clanton and Mary June Clanton; her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Judy Phipps, and her stepchildren whom she treated like her own: Art and Sheri Sanders, Bill and Aloha Sanders, and Cina and Jim Gailey. Carrying on her legacy are an additional 10 grandchildren: April Hetherington, Michelle Evans, Clint Woods, Stacy Holtmyer, Michael, Steve, Dan, David and Abby Sanders, and Jessica Gilmore; and 14 great-grandchildren. As she would say, Praise the Lord! Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, March 28, at Victory Christian Center, with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
