Obituary

Bill McCully, 92, of Oklahoma City, joined his wife, Betty, in the presence of the Lord Jesus on June 3, 2016. Bill was born on May 12, 1924 in Amarillo, TX to William Clark McCully and Faye Berry McCully and graduated from Amarillo High School in May of 1941. Bill worked for Trans World Airlines for over 40 years, beginning as an apprentice airplane mechanic in 1942 and retiring in 1983 as General Foreman. Bill entered the Air Force in April of 1943 and, after training, served on a flight crew in the 505th Bomber Group on Tinian Island in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to his career with TWA in Amarillo, later transferring to Las Vegas and then to Oklahoma City in 1959. Bill married his sweetheart, Betty Lee Andress, on August 15, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty June. After 68 years of marriage, Betty Lee preceded him in death by one year. He is survived by his daughters, Beth Runnels and Becky Varner; son-in-law, David Varner; grandson, Brian Runnels; and numerous nephews, nieces and their families. Bill was ordained as a deacon at Temple Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas. He and Betty centered their lives together on serving Jesus Christ and His church. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Nazih Zuhdi, who performed Bills first open heart surgery in May of 1968 and followed by a second open heart surgery in January of 1973. Also a special thanks to Dr. John Chaffin, Dr. Jan Voda, and Dr. Katherine Little who were so instrumental during the years when critical care was necessary and special gratitude to Dr. David Fisher for his continued care for both Bill and Betty throughout their lifetime. The family also expresses appreciation to Frontier Hospice for the care he received in recent months. Viewing will be Wednesday, June 8, 1-9 p.m. with family present 6-8 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. The Funeral will be held Thursday, June 9 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Mercer-Adams. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bill McCully to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.
