Betty Josephine Underwood, 88, of OKC, died March 30, 2020. She was born February 15, 1932 to C. Josephine (Russell) and Wilford P. "Red" Newman. She lived in Bethany, OK the duration of her adult life and was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Bethany and an Eastern Star member. She married Johnnie D. Underwood, October 4, 1947, and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing July 1, 1994. Betty was a homemaker, wife and mother, and an established oil painter. She recently retired from St. Marks nursery and the Mothers Day Out program where she worked for many years. Known as "Ms. Betty," she loved all the children like her own. Her family and faith in God was her greatest joy. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie, her sons, Johnnie Dail Underwood and Rickey Lee Underwood, and her sister, Joann Lyle. Survivors include her sister, Reva Coley; daughters-in-law, Susan Underwood and P.J. Underwood; grandchildren, Raquel Sprague (Randall), Roxana Smith and Robin Wright, Jason Underwood and Sean Underwood, Johnnie Loudermilk and James Thrasher; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be Friday, 3-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
