Obituary

Betty Lu Mahan, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 9, 2025. She was born on February 14, 1930, to Charles Albert Orleans and Slyvia Eloise Margarethe Metzler-Orleans.

Betty loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a good and faithful servant throughout her life. She graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Enid, Oklahoma, in 1949. On June 26, 1949, Betty married the love of her life, Bill Mahan. For 76 wonderful years, Bill and Betty deeply supported and loved one another. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and faith for their four children, Lonny, Leonard, Danny, and Becky. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and care shaped generations.

A talented seamstress, Betty shared her gift by teaching sewing classes and creating beautiful pieces for family and friends. She was an amazing cook; she was known for stopping the boys' neighborhood football games with her homemade cookies. Betty and Bill enjoyed spending time at the YMCA, where she taught water aerobics. Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was always active in the church, teaching Sunday school. Betty was a Prayer Warrior; she believed in the power of prayer and prayed daily for her family and friends. Her kindness, energy, and devotion touched the lives of all who knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Slyvia Eloise Margarethe Metzler-Orleans; her father, Charles Albert Orleans; her sisters, Sylvia Mae, Jo Ella, and Dixie; her brother, Charles; and her beloved son, Leonard Joe Mahan.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bill; her sons, Lonny and wife Pama; her son, Danny and wife Cathy; her daughter, Becky and husband Rick; Leonard's wife, Teresa; her grandchildren, Erin, Chad, Amber, Nicole, Lauren, and Jayme; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Bella, Lucas, Matthew, Sophia and Brady.

Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous spirit, and the endless love she gave to her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 11:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel. The service will be webcast and may be viewed on this obituary page.
