Betty Lou Parker Garton, 85 of Amarillo, formerly of Bethany, OK, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, in Bethany, OK at the First Baptist Church of Bethany with Senior Pastor Charles Womack officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday 11am-9pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK, 73008. Memorial services in Amarillo will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. at South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Betty was born June 19, 1926 in Raiford, Oklahoma to Nettie Victoria and Isaac Conrad Parker. She was raised in Raiford, OK and graduated from high school in Chouteau, OK. She married the love of her life, Charles Clifford Garton, at the end of his service during World War II. They were married for over 66 years. Her greatest joy in life was raising her two children and being actively involved in her grand and great-grandchildren's lives. She diligently cared for her family while becoming one of the first women supervisors at the Western Electric Plant in Oklahoma City. Betty showed kindness and respect for the employees who were under her supervision. In addition, for many years she taught young children in Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Bethany, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Fred Parker, and sister, Morene Wright. Survivors include her husband Charles Clifford Garton of Amarillo, TX; a daughter Brenda and husband John Kendall of Amarillo, TX; a son Glen and wife Linda Garton of Pagosa Springs, CO; a grandson Tyler and wife Heather Kendall of Amarillo, TX; a grandson Grant Garton of Washington, D.C.; and two great-granddaughters Allie and Lexie Kendall and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff for the loving care and attention provided by Childers Place Nursing Home and Hospice Care of the Southwest.
