Obituary

Betty Ruth Childers was born February 25, 1931 in Denver, CO, the youngest child of Benjamin Burt Childers and Mary Ruth Wells Childers. After attending Englewood, CO schools through her Jr. year, she graduated from Carlsbad High, Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1949. After three dates with James "Jimmie" Falkner of Carlsbad, they became engaged and were married on April 30, 1949 in Dallas, TX. By December of 1953, this union had produced three children. To further their education, James and Betty moved to Bethany, OK in August, 1961 and she received her degree in Elementary Education from Bethany Nazarene College in 1963. She taught 4th grade for Putnam City Schools at Windsor Hills, Coronado, and James Dennis until her retirement in 1981. Besides her duties as wife and mother, her entire adult life was spent serving her Lord through Nazarene Missions. Tons of clothing and medical supplies were shipped to Africa and Mexico as a result of her efforts. Betty quietly slipped into her eternal home on March 10, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James; daughter, Katherine Hermance and husband Terry of OKC; sons, James Jr. and wife Cathy of Yukon and William Burt and wife Elizabeth of Bethany; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Moyaro (Michael), Amy Sanders (Kevin), Mindy Turner (Travis), Terry Hermance (Jami), Eric Falkner, Clay Falkner (Jessica), Brad Falkner (Jamie Hale), Bryan Taylor (Jana), Adam Taylor, Trey Falkner, Jamie Falkner and Aubrey Falkner; 18 great-grandchildren, Katie and Will Moyaro, Addie and Ellie Sanders, Tate and Trindon Turner, Jacob, Gabriel, Samuel and Sophie Hermance, Sydney Falkner, Mia and Lincoln Falkner, Kalee Hale, Shelby, Kinsley and Presley Taylor, and Ashton Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Celebration of home going will be at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, March 14, 10:00am with interment following in Bethany Cemetery. Memorials may be made on her behalf to Nazarene Worldwide Mission, c/o Bethany First Church of the Nazarene or to the missions ministry of your choice.
