Betty June BJ Cowden, 61, died April 3, 2011. She was born January 2, 1950 in Stratford, Oklahoma to Alvin and Mildred (Lewis) Smith. She worked in advertising and marketing. BJ was an avid Thunder and OU fan. She enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports. She and her sister, Linda, started the Dolphin swim team 15 years ago and her kids were very special to her. She was passionate about working with individuals with special needs. Preceded in death by her parents, BJ is survived by her husband, Tom Cowden; daughters, Stacy Maker and husband Chris of Dallas, TX, Debbie Hanska and husband Steve, Edmond, OK; son, Tim Cowden and wife Monique, Overland Park, KS; sister, Linda Arnold and husband Mike, OKC; brother, Dewaine Smith and wife Lena, Wichita, KS; an especially close nephew, Michael Arnold; 6 grandchildren, Garrett, Jesse, Sarah, Joe, Anna, and Jack; 2 nieces and 4 nephews; and a host of family and friends. Services for BJ will be held Friday, April 8, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
