Betty Jean Shinn-Cordtz, age 94, went to sleep at home on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021 and woke up in Glory. She was the daughter of George and Elsie VaLeu of Quincey, IL. Betty was the "Valedictorian" of her high school class. She married Edward "Doc" Shinn in 1946 and had six children. She was a mom, housewife and assistant to her husbands veterinary practice in Moweaqua, IL until his passing in 1972. She married Robert Cordtz in 1974 and had one daughter. Betty gave her heart to Jesus in 1975 and joined Clairmont Nazarene Church in San Diego, CA. She loved entertaining and often had Point Loma Nazarene University students for Sunday lunches. She was a giver. She loved to give gifts and was always thinking of others. She loved to do needle point and knit. She made every holiday special. She always said her greatest treasure was giving birth to her kids. It was the most joyous times of her life. We will miss her preaching at holiday and family gatherings and her spontaneous singing at anytime and anyplace. Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father; older brother, Junior VaLeu; older sister, Iola Korves; and one son, Joseph J. Shinn; first husband, Edward "Doc" Shinn; and second husband, Robert Cordtz. She is survived by one younger sister, Mary Ann Womack of Joplin, MO; her six children; son, Michael (Susan) Shinn of Pueblo West, CO, son, George (Angie) Shinn of OKC, OK, daughter, Judith (Mark) Stone, El Cajon, CA, son, Samuel (Sharon) Shinn of OKC, OK, son, Timothy (Erma) Shinn of Ada, OK, and daughter, Michelle (Kevin) Volk of Moore, OK; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL . .
