Obituary

Barbara Ann Smith, born to Claude Hicks and Marcella Langy on July 5, 1951, passed away of a broken heart. In death she was reunited with the love of her life, Estell "Johnney" Smith, who had passed on September 13, 2022. Their 51 years together, 49 of them as husband and wife, were marked by a love that never wavered.

Barbara's life was one of achievement and warmth. She worked at Western Electric from the age of 18 until her retirement at 50. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to earn a master's degree from Southern Nazarene University in 1998. As a writer, she published five books, under the pseudonym Chelsea Songbird, sharing her heart and wisdom with the world. She also had a deep passion for game fowl, dedicating much of her time as a devoted game fowl fancier, a passion that brought her joy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Estell "Johnney" Smith; her father Claude Hicks, and her mother Marcella Langy.

She is survived by her siblings; Carolyn, Claudia, Mike, Patrick, Tommy and Cathy; her daughter; Starlet and husband Troy Little; grandson, Joshua and wife Lirio Irvin; granddaughters, Sheena and husband Justin Mackey, Brittany and husband John Scott; grandsons, John and Wyatt Little. Barbara's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren; Bryce, Brendon, Joshlynn, John, and Emma Irvin, Trinity Irvin, Starlet Mackey, Cory Gurley, Nirvana and Cash Mackey, Violet, Hailey, and Rose Scott.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was well-lived, and she embraced each moment with grace. She was ready to pass on to the next phase, closing her eyes and waking up in the arms of her savior and her love, Johnney.
