Barbara Jean Pugh Neel was born in Douglas County, Kansas to Emma and Thomas Pugh on August 7, 1934. She grew up in Kansas, and then she attended Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University), where she met and married her college sweetheart, Perry Neel. They were married July 30, 1954, and this year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a bookkeeper, Sunday School teacher, dear friend, and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was the kind of woman everyone admired, a true lady. She supported her husband unswervingly in every endeavor and devoted herself to her daughter, becoming her most dearly loved friend. She poured her life into her grandchildren by her loving presence and active participation in their lives and doted on her great-grandchildren as each one came along. She made each of her family members feel special and loved as she made time for each of them. She faithfully served the children at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where she attended for 60 years. She passed away in the arms of her beloved husband at the age of 79 on the morning of January 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers, and by her great-grandson, Caleb Scheiern. She leaves behind her younger brother, Sam Pugh; husband, Perry Neel; daughter, Nancy Scheiern with husband Douglas; grandchildren: Krista Hands with husband Jeff and children Lelise, Abigail and Elias, Ginger Montgomery with husband Tony and children Colton, Madelyn and Harper, and Chris Scheiern with wife Stephanie and children Mason and Diana. Viewing will be Tuesday, 10am-9pm, with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Her funeral service will be held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 15. In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting donations be made to the Bethany First Church children's department (bethanynaz.org) where she served faithfully, the Oklahoma Lions Service Foundation (oklionsfoundation.org) where she and her husband devoted themselves in service, or Hope for the Hopeless orphanage (hope4hopeless.org) where her oldest great-granddaughter waits for the completion of her adoption to come home and join her family.
