Obituary

Barbara Gayle Johnson, 81, died peacefully May 11, 2020 in Oklahoma City. Barbara was born on October 4, 1938 to Billie and Clark Hinshaw of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Billy Noble; grandson, Jimmy Long; and great-granddaughter, Eckoe Owens. Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas "T.J." Johnson; daughter, Sherry L. Noble; son, Thomas "Tom" C. Johnson and wife Laura; grandchildren, Lynne M. Johnson, Thomas "Tommy" C. Johnson, Jr., Chelsea D. Owens, and Andrew W. Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jaylee M. Lucus, Emily A. Johnson, Knightly Owens, and Alarric Owens; sister, Patricia Taylor and husband Roy; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara graduated from Putnam City High School in 1956 and married on November 4, 1961. She and T.J. started life together in Wichita, Kansas before moving to Huntsville, Alabama and their permanent home in Bethany, Oklahoma. Barbara was a longtime member of Western Oaks Christian Church where she served in many ministries of the church. She enjoyed tole painting, sewing, friends, camping, and family history. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. Dementia robbed her of her identity but her deep love for her husband and family remained for all to see. Viewing will be Friday, May 15, 10am-8pm, with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Graveside service will be Saturday, May 16, 2:00pm in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
