Barbara Calvert, 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born on March 29th, 1937 in Hinton, OK to Eugene and Halley (Barger) Marvel. She married Don Calvert on November 28, 1977. They were happily married for 15 years before his passing in 1993. Barbara retired from AT&T in 1984 as a payroll clerk.
Barbara was raised in Clinton, OK. She would always tell us stories about how she and her brother, Jerry, would spend all day roaming around, riding their horses bareback, just holding onto their manes to keep from falling off. She rode in rodeos as a barrel racer. She loved baseball. Thankfully, as she got older, her love switched from New York Yankees to the Atlanta Braves. She used to tell stories about how when she was working at AT&T she would take a sick day or a personal day to be home to watch a day game of the Yankees. She also loved watching her grandkids and great-grandkids play baseball or softball. She traveled all over with Kathie playing softball. Between her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, she went to numerous sporting events. Before Don passed away, they loved to make arts and crafts to sell at craft shows, gardening, growing worms, camping, fishing, and traveling with the Bluegrass Woodcutters.
Barbara was known by many nicknames. Bobby, Mammers, George, Georgie, and according to Samantha she was "The Godfather." She was so much to so many. Once she met you, you became hers to love, pray for, care for, laugh with, talk with, or go get a coke with, but don't forget the peanuts for said coke.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Halley; her husband, Don; her brother, Jerry Marvel; her sister, Shirley Shepherd; her daughters, Brenda Berry, Sharon and Karen Miller; and her granddaughter, Holley Donovan.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Donovan and husband Pat of Colorado; granddaughters, Kathie Sigler and husband Chad of OKC, and Samantha Shown and partner James of OKC; grandson, Brandon Donovan and wife Christina of Yukon; great-grandkids, Patrick Davis, Christian Sigler, Bristi Parker, Garrett Sigler, Maddie Donovan, Kaiden Sigler, Olivia Donovan, Emma Donovan, and Ember Hinckle.
