Obituary

Auleen B. Cobb Lamb-Lance quietly left this earthly home for her heavenly home on June 14, 2012 at 5:50 pm. Auleen Cobb was born November 6, 1921 on a farm in Kingsdown, southwest of Ford, Kansas. She was the seventh child of Walter and Carrie (Brink) Cobb. She attended Glover County School at 4 years of age since big sister Alyce was teaching school. She graduated Ford High School at 16 years of age and participated in Drama and was on the Debate team for 2 years. After graduating from Dodge City Junior College, she taught school 2 years in a one room school house named Daisy Dell and one year at Ford grade school. She married a young farmer, Harry L. Lamb on October 7, 1942. Harry was inducted into the army and spent one year in Denver, Colorado. After being discharged, he worked his family's farm in Ford, Kansas, where 3 of the 4 children were born. Harry and Auleen moved their family to Bethany, Oklahoma to attend Bethany-Peniel College (now SNU) in 1952, where their youngest son Steve was born in 1953. Auleen graduated from BPC in 1956 with honors. She obtained her Master's degree from Central State College in 1963, graduating with the honor, Cum Laude. She then taught Special Education in the Putnam City School District where she taught at Hilldale and Coronado Heights schools for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Being a school teacher, she had a knack for making unique crafts from everyday items she would save. She also loved to read poetry and has written several poems. Especially, for family members she would compose rhymes to suit the gift or occasion, many times making the honoree hunt down their gift by reading and deciphering clues scattered around the house. Auleen was preceded in death by Harry on June 21st, 1984. She later rekindled a friendship with C. Edward Lance. They were wed on July 12th, 1986. After living for a while in Woodward, Oklahoma, they moved back to Bethany, OK in 1987 and attended Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where Auleen has been a member since 1952. She was in the Home Builders Sunday School class and has worked as Director, Social Activities and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, a teacher's sorority and served as secretary and president at various times. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She always looked forward to seeing her faithful Sunday afternoon visitor, Gary Lance, who would bring her the church bulletin and catch her up on all of the church happenings. Auleen was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Paul, Ralph, Milton and Leonard Cobb; and two sisters, Alyce and Ruth. She often said, "I'm the last kernel left on the Cobb." In addition, two sons, Douglas W. Lamb and Steven L. Lamb preceded her to heaven. Auleen is survived by her eldest son, Dannie L. Lamb and wife Barbara, of OKC; only daughter, Anita J.
