Audette Smoot Knutson passed away January 5, 2011 at Bellevue Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born near Eagle City, OK on February 26, 1927, the daughter of Earl and Mildred Smoot. She graduated from Southwestern State Teachers College in Weatherford and taught school in Lone Wolf and Fairfax, Oklahoma, and in El Centro, CA. She married Gerald Knutson in 1953. After her children were through elementary school, she worked in the Graduate College at Oklahoma State University. She served as First Lady of Graceland College in Iowa while Gerald was President. She was a dedicated member of The Community of Christ Church and was involved for many years in the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served in many offices including two terms as Regent of the Chapter. Also, she was an active member of Daughters of the Colonists and The Academy of Senior Professionals. She is survived by her husband, Gerald L. Knutson of the home; two children, Linda Conley and husband James of Independence, MO, Gary Knutson and wife Sandy of Bethany, OK; 5 grandsons, Steven Block of Moore, OK, Gregory Block and Grant Knutson of Bethany, OK, Bryan Conley and Brent Conley of Independence, MO; 2 great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Shirley Smoot of Faye, OK; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Darl Smoot. Viewing will be Friday, 9am-9pm with the family receiving visitors from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, Bethany, OK. Services will be Saturday, January 8, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel, with the casket open at 9am until service time. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
