Obituary

Arthur Paul Baclawski, 69, died November 23, 2021 following a long battle with a series of complications related to injuries from a fall. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of his wife Karen and daughter Jen. Paul faced any challenge with bravery, selflessness, determination, and his characteristically positive sense of humor. He will be missed deeply by many family members and friends. Paul was born on March 23, 1952 in Santa Fe, NM to Arthur and Jane Baclawski. He and his brothers spent most of their childhood outdoors camping, reading, and playing sports while growing up in Santa Fe, NM, Mill Valley, CA, and Fort Worth, TX. Spending time in nature gave Paul a deep love and appreciation for science which led to a life-long affection for geology. He proudly served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Birmingham, England before graduating with a bachelors and masters degree in Geology from Brigham Young University. He later completed extensive coursework toward a doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington. Paul met his soulmate and wife of 47 years during his college years and theirs became an enduring love. Pauls professional gifts and skills were in designing and overseeing oil and gas exploration. Paul never "worked" a day in his life, doing exactly what he loved. He was regarded as a top geologist with extensive knowledge of geological settings throughout the United States particularly in the Rocky Mountains. He was known for thinking outside of the box and problem-solving. Throughout his career he led multiple projects at Champlin Energy, Union Pacific Resources, Schlumberger, Moncrief Oil, Pennzoil, and Devon Energy. In 2016, he became a partner in his own company, Select Exploration Group. Paul was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in multiple callings throughout his life and touching the hearts of many. He was deeply and unapologetically passionate about his faith and lived with the greatest example of kindness, compassion, and leading with love. He will always be remembered as an avid reader, a devoted bishop, scout leader, teacher, servant, lover of what he found to be "good" music, and a fan of Jeopardy. His daughter learned to appreciate the joy of learning and gained an appreciation for the outdoors and competitive sports from his adventurous nature. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jane Baclawski; father-in-law, Oscar Wiser; and sister-in-law, Joy Baclawski. He is survived by his wife, Karen Baclawski; daughter, Jen Baclawski and daughter by choice, Jamie Meshew; brothers, Charles Baclawski and his wife Jacqueline; Robert Baclawski; mother-in-law Norma Wiser, brother-in-law, Mark Wiser and his wife Sherrel; brother-in-law, Eric Wiser and his wife Kathryn; sister-in-law, Wendy Jordan and her husband David; and a host of much-loved nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends. We would like to thank the staff of the Fountains at Canterbury for the comfort and service they provided him through the last several years. We would like to also thank his friends and co-workers for their support and kindness.
