Anna Mae
Yost
Sep 13, 1937 — Aug 28, 2024
Anna Mae (Streetman) Yost passed away peacefully in the evening of August 28, 2024. She was born on September 13, 1937, in what her cousin, Glenda Stillwell, remembers as a beautiful old farmhouse, located between the small communities of Maytoy and Bokchita near Durant, OK. Her parents, Cephas Clayton Streetman, a peanut farmer, and her mother, Edna Earl (Millender) Streetman, a great cook, professional seamstress and devoted Christian, moved to Oklahoma City just in time for Ann, then 6 years old, to enter the first grade at Roosevelt School. She later graduated from Capitol Hill High School as a National Honor Society student. She attended Oklahoma University where she was on the Dean's Honor Roll and earned a degree in Business Education in 1959.
Ann and her future husband, David Yost, met at OU and were married in March, 1959, just before her graduation. They moved to Houston where David managed a direct sales organization. They quickly started their own business which they operated successfully for 10 years, before starting a land development career that ultimately involved creating 18 neighborhoods.
The best and most important event of Ann and David's marriage was the birth of their beloved daughter, Lori Ann, on January 5, 1963. Lori was a gift from God, who always sought to do the right thing.
Ann and David's life was always very busy, but never too busy to be with Lori, when possible. Ann was a wonderful mother, who took the best possible care of her precious child. Ann enjoyed making clothes for Lori, and she and David loved to read to her and play games with her and her friends. They had wonderful vacation trips with her that continued after her marriage to Jason Nelson and the birth of Ann's grandchildren, Benjamin and Grace.
Ann was a devoted Christian and her life mirrored her faith. She was an active volunteer and leader in several organizations. She was on the board of directors of the Women's Council of both the Central Oklahoma Homebuilders Association (COHBA) and the Oklahoma State Homebuilders Association (OSHBA). She was the national representative from Oklahoma to the National Association of Homebuilders Women's Council (NAHB). She was voted Woman of the Year in the statewide Women's Council in 1998. Ann served as an officer in the Oklahoma County Republican Women's Council as membership secretary, and was an officer in the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, a non-profit, non-partisan, patriotic organization. She volunteered as a counselor for a Crisis Intervention Program, taking all night shifts to speak by phone to callers in crisis situations. She also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, interviewing applicants to determine qualification. Ann was honored to be named one of OKLAHOMA'S FIRST LADIES in 1995. It is an organization founded under the sponsorship of the OKLAHOMA FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN to honor ladies who are leaders in their community and work tirelessly on behalf of charitable, educational and cultural organizations.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Edna Streetman; and daughter, Lori.
Ann's willingness to donate so much time and energy to helping others was remarkable and has been greatly missed during all the years of her illness.
