Anna Lee Takemire, age 94, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021. She was the second child of three born to Jack and Laura Houts near May, Oklahoma on August 10, 1927. She was born in a loving family who raised their family to know Jesus. She was born again at age 9 in Roston, Oklahoma in a little Methodist church where her Daddy was pastor. She said she vividly remembers the day. Her heart felt light and the whole world looked brighter. She invited the Holy Spirit to direct and control her life while a freshman at Bethany Peniel College. It was there she met Melvin Unruh as they sang in the A Cappella Choir. They married September 7, 1947. To this union was born two sons, Don Lee and Gary Dean.
In 1962, Anna Lee returned to college where Melvin was now a professor. Upon graduation from Bethany Nazarene College in 1965, she began a 25-year career teaching at Bethany Public Schools. During that time, she was voted Bethany Teacher of the Year and Oklahoma County Teacher of the Year. On September 12, 2013, Anna Lee was inducted into the Bethany Public School Foundation Hall of Honor.
Anna Lee and Melvin enjoyed summer travels to every state, all the Canadian provinces and twenty-three foreign countries that enhanced their teaching efforts. She was widowed on July 19, 1987.
In 1991, Anna Lee met and married Frank Pendergast of DeSoto, TX. From this union, Frank gave her his loving daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Kevin Bains.
On September 1, 2001, she married another precious man, Wilbur Takemire. She often told him, "You are a sweet companion to me in my old age."
Anna Lee was preceded in death by her mother and father; older brother, Harold Houts; her precious husband of 39 years, Melvin Unruh; husband of 8 years, Frank Pendergast; husband of 10 years, Wilbur Takemire; and son-in-law, Kevin Bains who passed away on September 8, 2018.
She is survived by one younger brother, Jack Houts (Ann) of Tyler, TX; two sons, Don (Annietta) of Knoxville, TN and Gary (Kathi) Unruh of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Penny Bains of Frisco, TX; 7 grandchildren and their spouses; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; many cousins, nieces and nephews and 1500 Facebook friends. Facebook was her window to the world from her easy chair.
Anna Lee had repeatedly testified that her greatest desire was to be a friend to all and a servant for Jesus. As a student, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a teacher, "Gods hand has always guided and blessed her real good."
Burial in Bethany Cemetery will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8 with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Association of Retired Ministers and Missionaries in care of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK 73008.
