June 2, 1936, Anita was born in a dirt dugout in the plains of western Kansas, near Liberal. God, family, education, and music were major influences in her young life. There were debate team and orchestra awards, OBU Homecoming Queen, graduating from Ball State University in Indiana in 1959, B.S. Degree in Home Economics. Married to Melvin H. Reynolds, her devoted, supportive and encouraging husband of 44 years. In 1962, they moved to OKC and lived life fully with their family and precious friends at Westridge Hills Church of God, Lakeview Park Nazarene Church, and SNU. In 1970, she received her Masters of Science in Home Economics from OSU, and with the support of her husband, in 1983 she received her Ed.D Degree in Adult Education from OU. Her teaching career in public and private institutions spanned 38 years. The bulk of her career was at Southern Nazarene University where she was Department Chairman of the Home Economics Dept. Anitas vision and achievements centered on teaching young women economics and techniques for improving their quality of life in their homes and workplaces. Her later teaching years involved her in the Sociology Department and focused her talents on the groundbreaking Adult Education Program establishment and curriculum development, with her emphasis on Gerontology. After her retirement in 1998, she loved raising English Bulldogs and finding loving homes for them. She was always ready to share a humorous story. Throughout life she had vision and tenacity to challenge social and religious norms. She understood the value of a helping hand to her fellowman. She is survived by her son, Mark Reynolds, daughter, Nancy Edison, sister, Kay Barnett and husband Rev. Randy Barnett, brother, James Burns, 4 grandchildren, Chris Edison, Meg Brown, Ben Edison and Alisha Gill, and their spouses, and 2 great-grandchildren, Josie and Nora Gill, all of OKC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin. Viewing will be Friday, 9am-9pm at Mercer-Adams.
