Obituary

Anita Ruth Canfield, 84, passed peacefully on October 6, 2017 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born July 18, 1933 in Ashland, KS to Howard and Ruth (Brewer) Burnett. Upon graduating from high school in Protection, KS, she left the small community to begin a new adventure attending Business School in Wichita, KS. She spent six years working in business then relocated to Buffalo, OK where she met and married Bill Canfield. She was fortunate to have a long and meaningful relationship and career as a legal secretary with Holcomb, Holcomb, and Harkins that lasted over 30 years. Church was an important part of Anitas life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Buffalo where she raised her family and demonstrated her love for Christ by serving many years as a pianist and organist, participating on various committees, volunteering countless hours with the youth, and creating life-long friendships. Later in life, Anita relocated to Oklahoma City where she joined Council Road Baptist Church and quickly expanded her circle of extraordinary friendships. She enjoyed traveling and participating in many activities through the senior adult ministry. Anitas greatest joy was her family. She was ready to go any time to see her grandchildren play a sports game, dance at a recital, or perform in a school or church program. Anita enjoyed music, playing cards with her friends, or engaging in quick-witted conversation. She enthusiastically cheered for the OU Sooners and the OKC Thunder and often amazed her grandchildren with her knowledge or opinion of either team. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Wesley Ray Canfield. Survivors include her daughter, Terri McAfee of Oklahoma City; son, Brad Wilkerson and wife, Kelly of Chickasha; step-children, Billie Kinlough and husband, Pat of Fort Worth, TX; and Mickey Canfield of Arlington, TX. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Natalie Laverty and husband, Shannon; Brianna Myatt and husband, Zach; Kent Wilkerson and wife, Jackie; Courtney Coffin and husband, Jerry; Kimberly Canfield; Michael McAfee and wife, Lauren; Matthew "Bear" McAfee and wife, Clytee; and Rebecca Jung and husband, Blake; as well as nine great-grandchildren: Anna, Kathryn, Gracie, Grant, Eric, Teagan, Ian, Wyatt and Graham and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends. Viewing will be Sunday, October 8 from 11am-9pm, with family present from 5-7 pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, Bethany, OK.
