Obituary

On October 20, 1952, in Dekalb, Texas, a daughter, America Giddens, was born to Cleophus Giddens. She was the oldest of four children.

America moved to Idabel, Oklahoma, where she lived with her uncle, Willie Lee Giddens, and aunt, Lottie Lee Giddens. She attended Gray High School. She later moved to Los Angeles, California in 1971 where she lived with her mother and family.

In 1971, she was blessed with a daughter, Kimblee Hunter. She attended Los Angeles City College and furthered her education by obtaining her LVN nursing license. In 1972, she made a home for herself and started working for LAC+USC Medical Center before furthering herself by attending Los Angeles Trade Technical College to obtain her RN/BSN degree. She devoted 38 years of her life to their 7300 psychiatric unit department.

America departed this life on May 20, 2026, after a lengthy battle with dementia/Alzheimer's.

She was preceded in death by her brother, William Giddens. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two daughters, Kimblee Hunter and Ebony Freeman; sister, Sharon Giddens; brother, James Giddens; and six grandchildren, Jazzmin D. Porter, Taiza R. Tyler, Tyler D. Hunter-Renfrow, Elijah C. Renfrow, Micah A. Renfrow, and Noelle Rushing. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 5 at Mercer-Adams Chapel with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be in Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, June 6 at 2:00pm.
