Alvin Jack Myers, 88, passed away May 25, 2011 in Oklahoma City. He was born July 7, 1922 in Boone, OK to Jim and Lena Myers. He attended Chilocco Indian School where he became a Golden Gloves Boxer and earned a diploma as a Plumber. He served in the US Navy from September 1, 1943 to February 14, 1946, earning the rank of Shipfitter 2nd Class. He was assigned to the 86th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) on the Adak and Aleutian Islands of Alaska and also served in the Pacific Theater on Okinawa. He married Alta June Bailey on August 31, 1946 and began his career as a plumber. In 1958 he purchased his own plumbing business which he and his wife worked in until February of 2010, when a broken hip forced him to stop. He always provided for his family, took time to assist them with whatever they needed and knew how to do just about anything. He was a long-time member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church. He always wanted to be busy doing something and enjoyed golf, motorcycle racing, and attending his childrens and grandchildrens activities. He is survived by his wife, June, of the home, son Jack and wife Liz of Las Vegas, daughter Christy of Oklahoma City, son Alvin Jr. and wife Joetta of Edmond, grandchildren Harmony Munroe and husband Toby, Jackson and wife Suzanne, Ashley and Derek, great-grandchildren Cooper and Loudon, and one sister Josephine Wapp of Lawton. Services will be Tuesday, May 31, 10:00am at Portland Avenue Baptist Church with graveside services to follow at 3:00pm at Fairview Cemetery in Apache, OK.
