Alva June Wilson Emmert of Bethany went to be with Jesus on July 13, 2015. June was born on March 21st, 1923 to Oscar and Margie Wilson in Grandfield, OK, as the third daughter of five children. A near family tragedy caused her to be born premature in the month of March, although her expected birth month was in June. Her parents named her "June," believing she would somehow live in spite of the odds against her survival. Family and church volunteers took turns exercising and massaging her tiny limbs and body to improve her circulation and help her lungs develop. Oscar Wilson called their miracle child "June Bug" or "Bug." June began taking piano lessons at age 9 and, at age 12, she became the church pianist accompanying her father, Oscar, who was the song leader in the Nazarene Church. At age 13, their joyful worship relationship was shattered by Oscar's untimely death. June continued to play for the services while mourning her father's absence and leaning on family prayers. June met the love of her life, H.C. Emmert, their pastor's son, and they were married on May 30, 1939 and then departed for Orange, Texas. In 1941, H.C. became a Christian and answered his call to preach in 1943. Although initially, June had strong objections to being a preacher's wife, she was committed to God's will and supported their 52 year ministry with a willing and cheerful heart. June has ministered through her music, her ongoing prayer list, her writing notes of encouragement and has taught scores of piano students. She shared her gifted touch as an accomplished pianist in over 9,000 services of praise and worship. June has been a treasured blessing to her church families and always had a radiant smile regardless of their 41 moves, her burden for others and her diminishing health. In the home, June was the loving caregiver; she was a compassionate encourager, a wonderful cook and homemaker. She knew when to comfort, praise, scold or sympathize and how to manage her time between the demands of family and church. June always chose to believe in the goodness of people and their potential with God's help. Her strongest words for those who displayed bad behavior were that they were "being mean," "acting ugly" or "needing Jesus." Alva June Wilson Emmert's eternal healing is now complete; she has met her savior, she is reunited with Dr. H.C., and the host of family and friends that preceded her. She leaves behind a golden thread of goodness that her saintly life has woven throughout many hearts and lives and an adoring family who has been honored to live under the influence of her angelical spirit and in the sunshine of her smile. Preceding June in death were her parents, Margie and Oscar Wilson, her sisters, Velma Potts and Helen Woodall, and her late husband, Rev. Dr. H.C. Emmert. Survivors include her four children, Margaret Clark and husband Danny, Linda Skodak of the home, Clay Emmert and wife Linda, and Judy Mansfield and husband Larry; two brothers, Rev. O.W.
