Alta Mae Gering, 83, departed this life to be with Jesus on November 12, 2015. She was born to Ray and Anna (Wranek) Adams, October 11, 1932, in White River, South Dakota. Alta graduated from Plano, South Dakota, High School in 1950 and subsequently graduated Nursing School in 1952 with the highest score for the state board exam in South Dakota history. Alta married her sweetheart, Melvin Gering, on June 7, 1953; they enjoyed a romance lasting more than 62 years. Alta worked as a maternity nurse for nearly forty years. Her optimism, perseverance, and energy were an inspiration to all who knew her. Alta expressed her passion for Jesus and love for her family daily. She loved, and was loved, deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Anna Adams; sister, Esther Underwood, and brother, Art Adams. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Gering, of the home; four sons, Kent (Sharon) Gering of Yukon, OK, Perry (Laura) Gering of Bethany, OK, Alan (Carol) Gering of Fairbanks, AK, Kevin (Kristi) Gering of Idaho Falls, ID; eleven grandchildren, Matthew Gering and Andrew Gering of Yukon, OK, Rob (Rachel) Gering of Bethany, OK, Danny (Jeana) Gering of Oklahoma City, OK, Melanie Gering of Raleigh, NC, Brad (Sarah) Gering of Anchorage, AK, Shanna (Brandon) Irvine of Fairbanks, AK, Sara Gering of Juneau, AK, Anna Gering, Katie Gering and Jonathan Gering of Idaho Falls, ID; six great- grandchildren, Sophie Gering, Rex Gering, Elliott Gering and Graham Gering of Bethany, OK, Tyler Gering of Anchorage, AK and Elias Irvine of Fairbanks, AK; brothers, Clarence Adams, Kenny Adams, Gary Adams and David Adams; sisters, Betty Christensen, JoAnne Hofwolt, Nancy Kirchmeier and Diana Wick. Viewing will be 8:00am-9:00pm with family present from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Monday, November 16, 2015, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, Oklahoma.
