Alma Jean
Henderson
Dec 23, 1939 — Dec 25, 2023
Alma Jean Henderson was born on December 23, 1939, to her parents, Nora and Royal E. King of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She and her husband Gordon Henderson met in Oklahoma City in the spring of 1959, but Alma had already accepted a position with the First Baptist Church of Duncan and moved to Duncan shortly afterwards. Alma and Gordon continued dating long distance, and were married on May 21, 1960, and established their residence in Oklahoma City where they celebrated 63 years of marriage this year. Alma accepted a position with the Department of Child Care (now the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children) of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma where she worked for two years and then worked at Putnam City Baptist Church until 1970 when she left to become a full-time mother. Alma exercised her passion in life for children and missions through church activities as well as supporting the work of the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children. Alma loved many hobbies including sewing, art painting, swimming, and many other fun activities. After extended illnesses, Alma went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2023. In the quietness late at night during her last time in the Integris Baptist Hospital she told Gordon "I just want to go to the Lord". Alma was preceded in death by her parents Nora and Royal King and her sister Naomi Page. Alma is survived by her husband, Gordon; sons, Keith and Curtis; and grandson, Bond. Visitation will be at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N. Asbury in Bethany, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 28 from 12 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 29 at Village Baptist Church, 10600 N. May Avenue in Oklahoma City. Burial will be at the Erin Springs Cemetery in Erin Springs, Oklahoma at 1:00 pm on December 29. In lieu of flowers, her life of service and passion for children can be honored by donations to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, 3800 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
