Allene Stephens passed away June 9th in Dallas, TX after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Allene was born May 25, 1923 in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, the fourth of six children born to John Trimble and Susie Matilda Bowlin, and grew up south of Carnegie. She married Thomas Melvin Stephens in 1948 who remained the love of her life for their 56 years of marriage. They farmed near Cowden, OK until moving to Oklahoma City in 1957 with their two daughters. They were long-standing members of Lakeside United Methodist Church and worked alongside each other when Melvin started his own business in 1966. Allene enjoyed sewing, making everything from curtains and clothes to a wedding dress and veil, and heading out to their "farm" to care for their cattle. Allene was strongly devoted to her faith, friends and family and generously gave her time, money and love to them. Allene was preceded by her parents, Melvin, her three brothers and a sister. She is survived by her daughter, Jenyne Purdy and husband Rick of Tulsa, grandchildren Tom Purdy, Sherri Purdy Wilson and husband Dan, and great-grandsons Nate and Colin Wilson; and by her daughter, Jenetta Grantham and husband Dale of Dallas, grandchildren Stephen Grantham, Melody Grantham Gardner and husband Michael , and great-granddaughters Anna and Ellie Gardner. She is also survived by her sister Irene of Carnegie, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams in Bethany. Funeral services will be held at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 13.
