Obituary

Alberta Jean Brixey Cohrs, 80, of Edmond, Oklahoma, previously of Piedmont, OK, passed from this life to be with her Lord,Thursday, February 1st with family by her side. She was born to Frank and Bessie Ann Nix Brixey June 13, 1937 in Vinita, Oklahoma. She had deep Oklahoma roots with relatives on both sides of her family being early residents of the Oklahoma and Indian Territories. She grew up on the family farm east of Adair in Mayes County, Oklahoma, graduating in 1955 from Adair High School. Alberta married Henry Dale Cohrs in a double wedding service on September 4, 1955 along with Albertas twin Roberta and Dales first cousin Dick Roberts, their mothers being twins. Dale and Alberta enjoyed 8 years together in Wichita, Kansas, where both of their sons were born, prior to moving to the Oklahoma City area in 1963. They resided in Bethany, Oklahoma until 1976, when they relocated to Piedmont. Alberta, Dale and sons enjoyed an active family life including youth sports and Scouts, camping, and vacations across America. Reunions with her large family at her childhood home on the farm in Mayes County were times of great fun. She was a practical joker and enjoyed laughing and having a good time. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Dale enjoyed traveling together. She loved her Church family and Sunday School class at FBC Piedmont. She was blessed as she helped others with her service with the Piedmont Service Center. She had a servants heart and helped many people in various ways. She worked as a telephone operator in Tulsa, OK and Wichita, KS from 1955 through 1963. After taking time to begin a family, she worked as the switchboard operator for Oklahoma City University from 1970 to 1973. She worked as the receptionist and switchboard operator for Aero Commander beginning in 1973 and continued to work in the personnel department through the transitions of ownership through Rockwell International and Gulfstream Aerospace through her retirement in 1993. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Piedmont Service Center for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale, of 53 years; son Randy; parents Frank and Bessie Nix Brixey; sisters Roberta Roberts, Ella George, Ruth Darnell and Edna Gay, and brother Howard Brixey. She leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Margaret Minson of Watertown, SD and a brother, Lonnie Brixey and wife Reva of Vinita, OK; son Greg Cohrs and wife Sandra of Winnfield, Louisiana, and daughter-in-law Glenda Cohrs of Edmond, OK; four grandchildren, Adam Cohrs and wife Jennifer, Amy Cohrs Goolsby and husband Matthew, all of Beaumont, Texas, Stacy Cohrs Yates and husband Mark, and Thomas Cohrs all of Edmond, Oklahoma; great grandchildren Eli and Emelyn Goolsby, and Londyn Yates; and many nieces and nephews. Pall bearers are grandsons Adam and Thomas Cohrs, grandsons-in-law Matthew Goolsby and Mark Yates, and dear friends Lee Brower and Lyndall Crowe. Arrangements are under the direction of Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Visitation will be held at 3925 North Asbury Avenue Bethany, OK on Sunday, February 4, from 5-7 PM with family present. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, February 5, at First Baptist Church Piedmont with Rev. Gary Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow at 4 PM Monday at Ghormley Cemetery, Mayes County, OK with John Mozingo officiating.
