Obituary

Albert D. Watts, 84, of OKC, passed away July 30, 2011. He was born in Virginia, IL on Dec. 8, 1926 to Lorena and Astor Watts. He retired from the US Army with rank of CWO-4 in June, 1975, after serving 28 years. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal for heroism, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, WWII Victory Medal and numerous other medals and ribbons. After retirement, he was in private business in Lawton, OK prior to moving to OKC in 1992. He was a member of the Christian Church and American Legion in Chapin, IL. He was a member of the Young Mens Club of OKC and was very active in The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks as a member of OKC Lodge #417, past Exalted Ruler of Lawton, OK Lodge #1056, and a permanent benefactor of the Elks National Foundation. He was very generous in helping those in need and was an active volunteer at the VA Hospital. He married Shirley Goldstein in Basel, Switzerland on February 2, 1959. He loved to travel with his wife until her death on March 30, 2005. His greatest love was his country, his family, and all the wonderful friends he had. He was preceded in death by his parents of Chapin, IL, wife Shirley of OKC, son David Watts of OKC, brothers Charles Watts of Peoria, IL and William Watts of Santa Fe, NM, and sister Sue Thorpe of Springfield, IL. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Stephanie and Dr. Kenneth Butler and grandson Jared of Richardson, TX; sisters, Floy Lopeman of Canton, IL and Carolyn Lambert of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Watts of Washington, IL; 16 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 28, 1:00pm at Elks Lodge #417, 4711 N. Tulsa, Oklahoma City, OK 73112. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regional Food Bank, www.regionalfoodbank.org and Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyokcac.org. **You are requested to bring to the service a photograph reflecting a special time or event. Please mount it to a strong paper and note on the paper why the photograph is special and what is the event and who are the people (scrapbook it). We will also have scrapbook supplies at the service. These memorials will be mounted on the wall during the service, and then compiled together as a tribute to give to my Dads only grandchild, Jared Butler.
