Obituary

Alan Lee Kidd of Edmond, Oklahoma, died at home on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the age of 76. Alan was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 28, 1946, baptized into the Methodist Church, and spent his childhood in Elmhurst, Illinois, Castro Valley, California, and Oklahoma City. Alan lived his adult years in Oklahoma. Alan met his beloved wife, Ellen Kidd, at the University of Oklahoman. Alan and Ellen were married for 55 years. Their love was palpable; their hands always intertwined. They were truly one flesh. Alan and Ellen's marriage bore fruit in their two much-loved children, Lisa Jackson, and Chris Kidd.Alan enjoyed being a grandfather and great-grandfather. Alan's calm, reassuring demeanor paired with his lifelong ability to fix anything, served him well throughout his career as an appliance salesman with JC Penney, a manager of McDonalds (and graduate of Hamburger University), and finally as a laser specialist with Rent-It. After many years with Rent-It, Alan started his own laser business serving the agricultural and construction industries. Alan's retirement years were spent in his houseboat with Ellen, enjoying the spectacular Oklahoma sunsets on Lake Eufaula. Alan's contentment was found in his love for Jesus Christ. He was a pillar of the Resurrection Free Methodist Church in Warr Acres, where he served as treasurer for many years. Alan shared the gospel with his characteristic good humor. In retirement, Alan volunteered in his community by driving the elderly and disabled to medical appointments. Alan truly had a servant's heart. He will be remembered as a loving Christian man, kind, even-tempered, and endlessly patient. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Robert Kidd; his mother, Patricia Kidd Bradley; and daughter, Lisa Kidd Jackson. Alan is survived by his wife, Ellen; their son, Chris Kidd (Paula); brothers, Paul Kidd (Inga) and Ken Kidd (Amy); sister, Debbie Vanni (Bill); grandchildren, Kiacheal Burris (David), Blake Jackson (Aly), Matthew Jackson (Aly), Amanda Jackson, Catherine Burch, and Erica Kidd. Alan reveled in calling himself a Great-Grandfather to his family's recent addition, great-grandson, Allistaire Burris. Alan was also a beloved uncle to his many nieces.
